Our Story

Khandaan began at a Nando’s in Central London on a random September afternoon. Amrita had just moved to London and Top Friend Beth was insistent that she meet up with Asim and Sujoy; what was going to be a polite catchup between almost strangers from the internet turned into a friendship that would eventually become the #1 Bollywood podcast in the world.

From the get-go, the vibe was exactly what you can hear today on the podcast. We were friends with a similar passion for cinema and an exhaustive knowledge of Bollywood music, trivia, and gossip. And then in 2018, Asim sent out an email that said he had an idea for a
podcast about the movies of the three Khans of Bollywood and he wanted to call it Khandaan.

Khandaan : A Bollywood Podcast

The podcast is still that indie venture with three people running the whole show. We ideate, create, edit, and publish all by ourselves. Our USP is that you’re listening to the real us with our real opinions. We’ve been trying to sell out for years but nobody will buy us, so you don’t have to worry that we’re an industry mouthpiece of some kind. Our driving impulse is an enthusiasm and love for cinema, particularly Bollywood.

A lot of our ventures are funded by our little Patreon family, to whom we are eternally grateful because it allows us to do fun things like publish this website. And our growth over the years has been thanks to all the movie lovers out there, who have listened, criticized, and cheered us on for hundreds of episodes.

Come join our growing family!

Asim-Profile.png

Growing up in Belgium, Asim found a unique way to connect with his culture through an obsession with VHS Bollywood movies. This early passion led him to create Upodcast, one of the first Bollywood podcasts, back before podcasting was even popular.

Known for his quirky humor —funny to some, annoying to many— Asim brings a blend of nostalgia and insanity to every episode. Beyond the mic, he's a pretty successful business entrepreneur and a proud girl dad, balancing the chaos of entrepreneurship with the joys of fatherhood.

Asim will force you to be his friend by cooking for you.

Amrita-Profile.png

Amrita comes from a film-loving family that allowed her to watch whatever she wanted. Consequently, she grew up watching Hollywood musicals, Bachchan actioners, and everything she shouldn’t have been watching at a young age.

She has a lifelong love of pop culture, celebrity gossip, and just interesting information in general, and is the very opposite of a gatekeeper so approach at your peril.

Sujoy-Profile.png

Sujoy grew up in the 1980s on a healthy diet of Doordarshan's Chitrahaar, Ramanand Sagar's Ramayana, SD and RD Burman audio cassettes, and VHS tapes of Hong Kong action movies, Terminator, Robocop, and Ramsay movies - none of them age appropriate. This is as good an explanation of how he turned out as any.

He has a love-love relationship with Bollywood and cinematography, and is joined at the hip to his camera. He can often be found looking for his next food adventure or his next mechanical keyboard.
